Anime Invasion
There’s a whole lot of nothing going on here. Almost 2 hours of nothing to be exact.
We start by talking about Ouran and go down a long and winding anime road. We learn some new things about each other, and realize that Luna is much more of a geek than we thought.
Enjoy, my fellow Zutarians.

Standard Podcasts [109:15m]:

OMG. I can’t believe you mentioned Samurai Pizza Cats!!! All I remember from that show was that they had giant robots, and the main cat had a crush on a girl cat that shot bombs out of her head when she was distressed.

For the Fullmetal Alchemist discussion, watch this if you haven’t: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxPlIHIlPnI&feature=related
It’s the ova epilogue for the entire series.

While we’re on a recommendation list, I’d like to put up “Millennium Actress”. Maybe you’ve heard of it. It’s done by Satoshi Kon, who’s considered to be almost on the same level as Hayaoi Miyazaki. This film was tied for “Best Animated Feature” award alongside “Spirited Away” when it was released.
I highly recommend it:

It’s in Japanese with subs. The youtube version chopped it up in parts, I think about 9 parts in all.

I think the very first anime I ever saw when I was a very little girl was….The Mysterious City of Gold & The Adventures of ***** and Belle (I can’t remember the kids name but Belle was a big white dog that was very gentle that every one wanted to kill becuase they thought she was dangerous to people!) Both were on Nickaloden back in its heyday when it was the “pinwheel” station…..pinwheel pinwheel spining around….(SING IT!!)
Nightscream said this on November 3rd, 2008 at 1:41 pm
Oh and you guys HAVE to watch the movie “Howl’s Moving Castle” its one of my fav’s right up there with “Spirited Away & Princess Monanoke”.
Nightscream said this on November 3rd, 2008 at 1:43 pm
I think the first anime I watched without knowing it was anime was “My Neighbor Totoro” and “Kimba the White Lion”. I was…. five? or maybe six?
Youkai Yume said this on November 3rd, 2008 at 1:45 pm
Ohh! I’ve seen Howl’s Moving Castle! THat movie was CRAZY and I think it’s one of my favorites in regards to anime movies. And I’ll totally check out Millenium Actress.
Kimba? That White Lion? Sounds like Disney ripped Lion King off of an anime, lol.
Zoë said this on November 3rd, 2008 at 3:20 pm
Disney did. lol. In some of their early concept work, they even had one of a white lion, and of a similar place that looked like Pride Rock.
Youkai Yume said this on November 3rd, 2008 at 3:23 pm
Oh god, you have to check out Paprika. It’s another movie by Satoshi Kon (much like Millennium Actress) and it’s ABSOLUTELY CRAZY.
Emily Munro said this on November 3rd, 2008 at 6:11 pm
I have Paprika… storywise…EEEEH. Not all that great. Visually it’s a graphic orgasm.
Youkai Yume said this on November 3rd, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Yeah, hence the crazyness of it. I watched some of it last night, but found myself skipping half of it.
Emily Munro said this on November 3rd, 2008 at 6:37 pm
LOL Nuclear carebears? And yeah, the planet’s name is Endor (Which is actually a name stolen from the Lord of the Rings, as so many other things) Tho I shouldn’t get started on StarWars, cause altho it wasn’t shit when the first movies came out, it turned into crap once the new ones did… >_> Hate George Lucas deeply.
Can’t coment on Oran tho, haven’t seen it, but Luna is completely right, the voice acting can suck the life out of a show, that’s why you must use subtitles…
On a side note FINALLY! SOMEONE WHO GOT ANNOYED WITH INUYASHA TOO!!! Oh my fucking god! That series sucked… I watched it hoping it would be closer to Ranma ½ which is by the same creator but so much better And yes, they never ‘finish it’ the last episode gives off a crappy ‘To be continued…’ feeling XD
This is so good I will have to edit my comment in several smaller ones, I turn away for less then a week and you get TWO PODCASTS! UNFAIR! xDDD
Ghash Ironhand said this on November 4th, 2008 at 10:52 am
OH MY FUCKING GOD!! I HADN’T EVEN FINISHED HEARING THE PODCAST WHEN I COMMENTED! RANMA ½!!!
That’s also like MY FAVORITE ANIME EVER!!
Not fair Zoë >_>U I watched it too and love it to death!! AND NOOOOOOOOOO You can’t say you don’t know why you love it! Well… yeah you can actually, cause to some extent I can’t decide why I like it so much either…
Yeah, it has a lot of hot stuff in it, sex jokes and what not, tho its not like its all about that
And yeah, the concept of this guys who bare titan like strenght and lightning speed to turn into this harmless looking thingies (Specially Ryoga and Moose cases who are by far the two deadlest oponents Ranma will ever face)
There is also this buttload of humor, the comedy goes from small frases to huge physical comedy that can’t be clearly described on words but images XD To some extent tho, you guys sort of remind me the sort of humor on the show, its like one thing gets to the next one and suddenly there is a jolt of laughter and screams and it all builts up so quickly you go nuts XD
But there are also this tender moments, romantic ones and not, which is so good, there is not just the posibility between Ranma and Akane (His unwilling fiancee) but by instance Shampoo who is so cute and tries so hard to get Ranma, and even tho you kinda know Ranma likes Akane, seeing her work so hard and put her soul to it, you just want her to succeed too, but the best comes when he, even tho Ranma is a moron no two ways about it, notices her effort and gives her a bit of recognition for it, nothing big, but… I don’t know its so sweet sometimes, and there are like sooo many quite posible ships within the story that you just can have fun with them all…
Last but not least, I would like to call it the progresive acceptance factor, I mean, yeah, Ranma can turn into a girl, there are no two ways to see it, but the fact his body changes doesn’t make him any less of a ‘man’ as far as ‘manlyness’ goes, still you get to see through that, that all those virtues all so closely linked with ‘manlyness’, like courage, determination and strenght, are not in fact manly but common to all, no matter what gender or even inclination (And yes, there are quite a few weirder ones through the cast, but we can leave it at that)
I must recommend you Zoë this series, so you can also learn not to judge a man by his look, or even taste, but by the man himself…
http://animeseed.com/index.php/site-content/anime-pages/ranma-12/?p=332
Haven’t checked all the links yet,but it seems like a good streaming place, MegaVideos usually has them all but it has a crappy search engine XD

WTF!? I am a guy! T_T
I might be like the only guy that ships Zutara… but meh xD
Only good thing about this one was that I got to picture Zoë’s boobs.
But ok, so you won’t forget I am a guy and I listen to your podcast almost religiously, but if you keep talking about breasts and what not I might do it more often even
Ghash Ironhand said this on November 4th, 2008 at 12:57 pm
that’s not true at all! I know plenty of guys that ship Zutara. They just don’t openly advertise it XD
Youkai Yume said this on November 4th, 2008 at 3:15 pm
LOL Well but I am the only male fan around here I think… So THERE!
Ghash Ironhand said this on November 4th, 2008 at 5:48 pm
Ghash, you couldn’t hear because of the lame mic, but I said Ghash is a guy!
And I cannot express my love for Ranma 1/2 in words. It’s totally random and all over the place and I’m just drawn to it like a moth to a flame.
And I love Ranma. For all his bravado he’s such a romantic and a total knight in shining armor. And all the character interactions are amazing in that show. It’s so dynamic.
AND I totally watched Inu Yasha to see if it would be as good. And it was just…eh. Just couldn’t get into it. Kagome is just too annoying.
Luna said this on November 4th, 2008 at 6:38 pm
I always had a soft spot for Ryoga the pig. He’s so hopeless. I’ve always wanted a plushie of him as the black pig.
Youkai Yume said this on November 4th, 2008 at 7:35 pm
YEY! I was remembered! Even if out of mic range… but that’s enough!
And yeah, Ranma is such an amazing show and for so many reasons, I totally recomend it to anyone who likes anime and many who don’t, there is just so much to love, from the dirty sex jokes with Hapousai to the unusual and surprising acts of chivalry done by all cast members now and then, specially Ranma who has that unique talent of making enemies and then sort of friends XD
And how could anyone forget Ryoga? Indeed he is hopeless in so many levels and remarkable in so many more, wish he had being given a good fighting chance when it came to girls once or twice, tho he did ok a couple of times too xD
Lol, you are gonna call me crazy, but I always had this idea that Ryoga and Ukyo could make an awesome ship… >_>
I always liked Ryoga too, amongst all male characters in Ranma he is probably my favorite, not that I dislike any of them, but they are all imbecils, and that’s one of the reasons I like them xD
Ghash Ironhand said this on November 4th, 2008 at 8:07 pm
Before I forget it…
Kagome IS FUCKING ANNOYING ain’t she?
InuYasha too when I think about it, with the whole going after the crazy bitch that is trying to kill him over and over while the other crazy bitch, that we all know he loves is left behind to cry and moan
Sango was kinda cute, tho she and Miroku had such an squandered (Spelling) potential…
Ghash Ironhand said this on November 4th, 2008 at 8:15 pm
I ~am~ I am so proud of you Zoe. So very proud. =3
Inuyasha, Bleach (or bleeck), and Naruto are, in my opinion, the worst shows ever in the history of anime. That, and anything dubbed by 4kids receives an automatic *epicfail*. Ouran is pronounced(or-on)
How can you be afraid of/not like Roger Rabbit pirates, Matterhorn, Space Mountain, and the Teacup rides…
You met Irrel in real life, remember? When the Sokka of amazing said ‘oh yeah, she’s right outside’ and I had to practically drag you both over to meet her.
The movie for Fullmetal Alchemist is pretty much the end of the series, so if you haven’t seen the whole thing, or at least the last season, it won’t make much sense at all. Besides, the series is better then the movie.
Pushing Daisies, I am completely up to date and have eaten the best strawberry pie in the world because of it. A-cha-cha.
For Halloween, I was a pirate of amazing. But I had to take it off because I was doing a skit that night. yeah… drama pwns your faces…
Jessie said this on November 5th, 2008 at 12:03 am
I’m not a huge fan of spinning rides. I can totally handle them, don’t get me wrong, but I would rather not. At the same time, I’m someone who will literally go on any ride, I just have preferences. ^^ Luna is just a jerk and likes making me look bad and super lame in front of you guys. SHE’S the one who refuses to go on Maliboomer in California Adventure.
I’m trying to understand why Bleach and Naruto are so bloody popular. Maybe I should do some research on my part, but I don’t care that much, lol. Does anyone care to share their opinion on that?
And Ghash, sorry for saying all of our fans are female. I think that was a personal “I hope so” statement, since at the time I was talking about my boobs, and the thought of any male hearing that conversation would make it extremely awkward. Though it looks like all things turned out in the end, eh? And I’m glad we have a male fan, this site just wouldn’t be the asme without you!
And to clarify Little Mermaid, Athena (Ariel’s mom) does NOT get harpooned. She gets squished by a pirate ship, because as Jessie knows, pirates PWNS! …and I guess that also means pirates PWNS mermaids!!! …???
And I’m totally going to continue watching Ouran, and Luna, you should watch Escaflowne, and I think it will take some time to even CONSIDER watching Randma 1/2…
Zoë said this on November 5th, 2008 at 2:49 am
Well I enjoy Bleach, and Naruto….but don’t watch it in English!! Watch the Fansubs & also don’t (I can’t stress this enough!!) DON’T watch the filler crap!!!
Nightscream said this on November 5th, 2008 at 9:02 am
As a fan of Inuyasha, I can speak for myself when I say that Yes, all the things you said about the series are true, and I completely agree. However, I don’t think people love the series because of it’s story, though when it started it had a good premise. It’s because of the characters, and their relationships, and how most people identify with them. The reason why Rumiko Takahashi’s manga is usually so popular is because she is able to do what most people struggle to do: Create sympathetic characters.
It’s the reason why you love Ranma, and why people are fascinated with Inuyasha. It’s also the reason why we connect with the Avatar characters. Most of the time, we stick with a series mostly because of the characters. If we don’t have characters we don’t connect to, then even the story can’t be enough to capture our attention.
It’s also why people stuck with Twilight (shudder) despite it’s crap storyline. Yes, it’s crap, I’ve read the first couple of chapters, and nearly gagged at how 12-year-old fanficcy it sounded.
Anyway, Zoe is right. WATCH ESCAFLOWNE. I think it was my first real series obsession right after Card Captor Sakura and I highly recommend it. How can you not like a series with Isaac Newton as the main villian? Just…when you watch it, make sure to watch it WITH SUBS.
on a side note, the one who did Hitomi’s Japanese voice in Escaflowne is also the main voice for Haruhi in Ouran.
Youkai Yume said this on November 5th, 2008 at 10:54 am
I think that Escaflowne was the 3nd anime I ever really got obsessed with. The first was DragonballZ, yes I know its not the best, but I loved it so much that I actually watched it in Spanish & on the International channel when the English versions were waiting for translation (obviously this is before I discovered dubs suck.) the 2nd was Sailor Moon! I loved the final season…Stars (which we will never get here in the states cause boys turn into girls!)
But Escaflowne solidified my love of anime. Its just a good story if you look behind the obvious…..plus Dilandu is hot (get it…hot…his obsession with fire….never mind!)
A really good site to download the whole series or seasons by reputable fansub groups, is boxtorrents.com.
They also have really good descriptions or links to descriptions of the anime.

Totally Off Topic (TOT): Tinker Bell movie is ridiculously cute, I may actually have to buy it.
In the case of DBZ, I think I saw some of the ‘Cell Games’ on Cartoon Network, and they would just stand there and be all ‘whoosh whoosh’ with their cool hair and mock eachother. For me it wasn’t anything to get excited about.
Zoë said this on November 5th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
Yay! I told you it was cute. I bought it when I first saw it because I was impressed with the animation. But it really is adorable. Just the right kind of charm.

I expect TinkerBell + Bobble art from you Youkai, lol ^^
Zoë said this on November 5th, 2008 at 6:46 pm
….I just lost this big comment talking about animes I don’t like…. T~T *deepbreath* Here I go again….
Note that I’ve seen all of these animes at one time or another and have given each of them a fair chance.
Ok. With me, the thing I have against Naruto is simple. Though I may be a pirate, I have a fairly decent amount of respect for the enemy (aka, the ninja). So why in the name of God’s green earth would a ninja, the epitome of stealth and silence wear an orange jumpsuit? It’s almost like he’s screaming “Look! I’m over here! Shoot meeeeeh!!!111oneoneone” And Sakura, with her pink/red look. That also makes no sense. Not only is pink the bane of my existence, it’s also an equally loud and obnoxious color as orange. In the real world with certain styles and fashions, they’re both tolerable. In the ninja world where there’re bloody shurkins, katanas, knives, and needles flying around you along with some magic wishy-wish, not very smart… The result? Fail. Epic fail.
As for Inuyasha, I don’t really hate it like I do Naruto, it’s more like a ‘yeah, thanks but not thanks’ kinda attitude… I got through like 12 episodes, and it just didn’t hold my attention as far as the story line. With me, it’s all about the story, and over time I learn to love the characters. That’s just have I am *shrug*. I respect the anime as a classic, but I simply would rather not watch it.
Bleeck (or Bleach as most call it). This anime… just didn’t appeal to me at all. I could barely get through the first episode. The whole “I see dead people” thing, doesn’t really catch my interest… This one, I have slightly less respect for because it’s such a sellout anime…
Now last, but not least… no… it’s least…
Dragon Ball (freaking) Z. I have seen more then my fair share of this anime, and frankly, I don’t care that it’s a classic. They spend more time staring eachother down then fighting, and when they finally do get around to planting punches, it takes 15 bloody episodes to do it. When someone dies, they come back a season or two later 20 times stronger then before.
Considering the law of entropy (inevitable decline and degeneration), how does this work ladies and gentlemen?
That’s right! It doesn’t… the characters spent more time grunting then speaking, there is no development in the plot line, and what little development there is, the protagonists come off as cold-hearted, anger, bitter, morons.
It was pretty much 16 seasons of complete nonsense.
Thank you and goodnight. x.x
(sorry if I offend anyone who likes any of these animes, that’s not my intent. however immaturely I stated my opinion, my criticism was meant to come off in a sarcastic and humorous way. because I take life so seriously =P)
Jessie said this on November 5th, 2008 at 7:59 pm
Taking things back to anime..
Good point Youkai, I think the most important on any story are the characters and yes, Rumiko does a great work at creating interesting ideas for them, so much I have being tempted to revisit Inuyasha’s cosmology and make it right, but meh, too lazy I guess xDDD
And yes, that’s what I loved about Avatar, even if in the end, they just got lazy, I mean, they gave Sozim no depth what so ever >_>
And Escaflown is a very good series, but the big noses made it terribly hard to watch on my end, everybody looked like if they where cousins with Pinochio or something, fuck, sometimes it got really ridiculous, but whatever, character design I guess…
One more thing, ZOË YOU MUST WATCH RANMA ½!! Seriously dudette, watch it, you won’t regret it, just do it and don’t look back, I promise it will be worth it, it has my personal peruvian seal of quallity
Gotta agree with you guys on Sailormoon shit tho… (Yeah haha I had to watch some episodes, I got two younger sisters >_>), got really confused when I saw the guys turn into girls and disliked Sailormoon inmediately, but that Jupiter girl was just hot tho… who cares if she was taller then most guys? Who gives a girl that looks that good any shit over her height? XD
Ghash Ironhand said this on November 5th, 2008 at 8:01 pm
WOW I HAD JUST POSTED AND YOU HAD POSTED JESSIE xDDD
And I gotta agree with you, Naruto is just shit, not to mention, if you look at the main characters, they are totally DBZ’s rippoffs… Only even MORE ANNOYING…
And well, DBZ has it’s good points, specially if you are a 12 year old hungry for violence (Though yeah, the episodes could had being more violence and less ‘I’ll slap you like a bitch’ ‘No, I’ll slap YOU like a bitch’ ‘No way I am way stronger bitch’ ‘No bitch, you are the bitch’), but yeah, all you say about it is right and true…
Bleach is just weird, nuff said.
Ghash Ironhand said this on November 5th, 2008 at 8:10 pm
I agree with most of Jessie & Ghash’s anime comments. I watched DBZ & Sailor Moon and all that before I discovered GOOD anime! I have to agree with Ghash about the whole nose thing in Escaflowne…it was a bit distracting…
And I still love Naruto & Bleach….but yeah the whole color scheme is totally wrong for ninjas (trust me I said the same thing…”he ware’s an orange jumpsuit and she’s pink!) but I don’t watch for realisem just mindless entertainment & violence!
Its a great exscape for me!
I have something wrong with me…I love anime that I know is crap, I can’t help it…please help me!!! LOL!!

I STILL know the theme by heart! I had a Donatello and Michelangelo action figure that was my pride and joy when I was little. I’m tempted to go digging through my old photos now to find my halloween costume when I was 4…Leonardo PWNS.
Zoë said this on November 7th, 2008 at 2:26 am
LOL All girls I know that liked TMNT wanted to be Leonardo… Then again Katara is the Leonardo of her team, so it sort of makes sense xD
Personally Raph was always my favorite, but loved all turtles, each by its own uniqueness, besides the videogames just rocked so much LOL

Youkai Yume said this on November 7th, 2008 at 11:38 am
Really…Leo? My fav was Raphael. I liked Donatello…but sometimes I just wondered why he wore purple….
Nightscream said this on November 7th, 2008 at 1:31 pm
LOL Purple ain’t a girl’s color, not more then red anyways…
Besides Don is a pimp, that’s why he pimps out their rides, uses a cane (Well a Bo Staff xDDD) and wears purple hehehe
Ghash Ironhand said this on November 7th, 2008 at 3:59 pm
No, Mikey had the bostaff, Don had the nun-chucks. And Mikey is by far the best turtle ever >

Nope, got it wrong there, Mikey was the one with nun-chucks and the orange mask, Don wore purple, had a bostaff and was the ‘mechanic expert’ of the team
